Dear Parasport club member

Turn your usual practice session into a National Paralympic Day (NPD) event and you and your club could get the chance to feature in your local newspaper!

If you host an NPD event we have a fantastic opportunity to give you coverage in your local newspaper, boosting your club’s profile and raising interest in your sport. Whether you want to hold a ‘come and try’ session or play a match for your fans, register your event on www.parasport.org.uk/npd and we’ll be in contact to talk about your event and could send the details onto your regional paper.

September 2013 marks one year on since the London 2012 Paralympic Games and to celebrate the occasion the BPA is launching the first
National Paralympic Day (#NPD2013) on Saturday, September 7, 2013.

#NPD2013 will celebrate all things Paralympic across the UK, from a deaf and disabled arts and sport festival in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to Boccia demonstrations in offices!

We know how important clubs like yours are in helping more disabled people to get active and delivering sporting opportunities for all those who’ve been inspired by London. #NPD2013 is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your club and attract new members and supporters.
We’d love to help your club play its part. Here are a few simple and cost-effective suggestions on how you and your club can get involved…
  • Advertise volunteering and coaching opportunities within your club: do you need a ball boy to come down and help every Saturday morning? Or maybe you need a website building or the books balancing? We’ve teamed up with Join In, the volunteering network inspired by the fantastic efforts of last summer’s Gamesmakers. You can advertise the ways in which your club needs support to thousands of keen volunteers when you register for National Paralympic Day through Deloitte Parasport.
  • Open up your usual practice session to the local community: on or around National Paralympic Day, invite neighbours, friends and even your local newspaper along to show off how fantastic your sport is. You could even give them the chance to have a go for themselves!
  • Give a talk to a local business, school or community group about your sport and how it has benefitted you and your members.
  • If you’re feeling adventurous, speak to your local council about whether you could put on a demonstration somewhere in your town to generate more support for your club.
Once you have decided on the event you are going to hold, register the details on our website www.parasport.org.uk/npd. You will then receive a confirmation email containing our free ‘Club Toolkit’ containing advice on how you can advertise and promote your event, as well as posters and personalised adverts to place on your website or put up around your neighbourhood.

Your club’s activity could even get the chance to feature in your local newspaper; we will be talking to lots of local media over the next five weeks to tell them about National Paralympic Day, so be sure to email or tweet us about your plans and we will try to let your local media know!

So don’t delay, sign up your club to National Paralympic Day and play your part!
