Do you want to get involved with the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships?

If so now is your chance to!

Applications are now open for volunteers for the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships, taking place in Worcester from 28th August – 6th September 2015.

Volunteering will help to deliver an experience of a lifetime for the participants whilst providing you with the opportunity to represent your city, county, and country – and to have great fun along the way!

The volunteer programme provides you with the opportunity to meet new people and to be part of something special. Opportunities include roles within the following areas:

  • Logistics

  • Venues/Facilities

  • Competition/Training

  • Communications

  • Community Engagement

  • Transport

  • Workforce/Tehnical Officials

  • Sports Presentation

Blind Cricketers Win in Wolverhampton

Australians aren’t the only cricketers celebrating recent success. The Worcestershire Elizabethans blind cricket team are upbeat after winning their inaugural match against visually impaired players in Wolverhampton.

The hosts made 79-2 from 10 overs. Worcestershire Elizabethans replied emphatically reaching the target without losing a wicket and with a couple of balls to spare.

Old Elizabethans CC breathed new life into Worcestershire blind cricket last summer when weekly development sessions began at the Memorial Ground in Perdiswell. Funded by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire and coached by sports students from the University of Worcester, the squad welcomes male and female players of all ages and abilities who are blind and share a love of cricket. Training continued throughout the winter thanks to a partnership with the New College Worcester school for the blind.

Blind Cricket was started in England in the 1940s as a means of recreation for injured servicemen.

Outdoor coaching sessions have started at Old Elizabethans Cricket Club on a Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 8pm. Anyone is welcome.

Powerchair Football Festival

Who is powerchair football for?

Due to the nature of the sport both male and females can compete together in the same team and players 5 years of age and over can be involved. Anybody who has a physical disability weather they are a wheelchair user or not are invited to take part.

There is a powerchair football festival being held at University of Worcester Arena, Hylton Road, Worcester, WR2 5JN. On Saturday 2nd May from 10.30 am – 2.30pmWorcester Promotional Poster

We have entered a Monday Night Club Float in the Carnival called Round The World.

If you would like to be involved with decorating, riding on, or walking with, our float at the Carnival sign up now.

We train on the all-weather pitch at YMCA St Johns, Henwick Road WR2 5NS  every Monday from 6pm – 7pm.

We are coached by Disability Sport Worcester and we are an FA Charter Standard Adult Club.

Just turn up on Monday at 6pm, or call Helen on 07973 788029 for more information.


All abilities can train with us. Men and women, beginners and experienced players. Family and carers are welcome to stay — and join in!

We have our own kit for players at no charge for the first year.
There is transport provided to the Club afterwards.

Summer Placement with Worcestershire FA

Worcestershire FA is delighted to be able to offer a 4 month placement opportunity to recent graduates, current undergraduates or similar following courses or employment related to sports development/sports management. The placement will be between mid-May and mid-September (to be agreed with the successful candidate).

This position reports directly to the Football Development Officers and will support and develop football in the Worcestershire FA area in accordance with the County FA Development Plan.

The role encompasses the following areas:
Growth & Retention. Increasing & maintaining participation in football (the number of affiliated teams), with a focus on mixed, boys youth, adult male, small sided and disability
Raising Standards. Supporting club and league development, particularly through the School-Club Links programme and the FA Charter Standard Scheme
Better Players. Ensuring programmes are provided to improve the standard of players and coaches across the county
Running the Game. Working with local football partners, contributing towards administration and strategic planning
Workforce Development. Increasing and supporting the local football workforce via in-service training events
Marketing & Promotion. Positively promote the Worcestershire FA via various media including social media

We need an enthusiastic, committed individual with good communication and organisational skills to support the work of our parent carer forum.  There is growing recognition by statutory bodies that the parent carer voice needs to be heard in the shaping and development of services for children and young people with disabilities and you can play a vital part in enabling this to happen in Worcestershire.  You will join a dedicated team of both paid staff and volunteers at WPCC at an exciting time in its development.

Support for Parents of Children with Speech/Language Difficulties

Afasic are holding an event in Kidderminster to support parents of children/young people with Speech and Language difficulties!

This will take place on Thursday 26th March at Kidderminster Town Hall, Vicar Street, Kidderminster DY10 1DB between 10.30am and 12.30pm and participation is entirely free.
